Eli and the art of eating

This video demonstrates several things: Eli's eating skills have vastly improved in the 10 days since the last video was made; for some reason he turns his head to the left every single time he swallows; our house isn't as spotless as I said it was in the crawling video; and he seems to love the baby food we made for him ourselves from butternut squash we bought at the farmer's market yesterday.

Sippy cup!

The handles made it into his mouth as much as the spout, but he finally managed to drink some water and appeared to like it.

Eli turns 6 months old today!

We put birthday candles in his prunes.

We are spending a week in Oak Island, NC with our friends. Eli was freaked out about the ocean at first, but now seems at least interested in, if not delighted by, being held by someone standing in the surf. He sat in the sea water in a placid canal on the western side of the island today and seemed to enjoy digging his hands into the sand and water.

Solid foods!

Eli got to eat rice cereal today, one week before his 6 month birthday. He liked it!

Eli tries to crawl

In this video, I start filming way before I get near Eli, because it beeps when you hit 'record', and anytime you make noise with any kind of camera, he immediately stops the activity we are trying to document and stares at the camera instead. If I knew how to edit it out, I would. Pay no attention to the pile of laundry in our upstairs hall. Our house is otherwise spotless, I swear.

This toy is kind of an overwhelming contraption, but Eli loves it and it gives him a chance to jump.

Developmental update

When we were in Seattle, Eli had a three day period during which the only thing that came out of his mouth was 'gee-yee', over and over and over. Then he forgot how to say it. For the past three days, it's been nothing but 'ayyy'. It's like being in a constant Happy Days episode with the Fonz. Now he's back to 'geeeeeeeeeee'. Just in case you follow these details and needed an update (Mom).

In the self-determinism category, he is working on being able to sit up on his own and has perfected rolling over to the left. He has no interest in rolling to his right. He shows signs of wanting to crawl, which at this point basically amount to face-planting while on his stomach and trying to get his knees up underneath him until he needs to breathe again.

He'll be 6 months old on the 27th, when we'll be at the ocean with the Hudgens family. Soon thereafter: solid food! That should make for some great photos. Stay tuned.
